You cannot count on anyone;
Except Yourself.

New Delhi. July 25th 2007.
I boarded route number 816, and after I crossed shakti nagar red light, I was going towards bus gate to get down. At the same moment, I heard people shouting of someone falling from the bus. I saw, a girl was lying there.. her head was bleeding too much; was crawling helplessly on the ground; white vomit coming from her mouth.
I am such a moron, I didn't went for help. Neither did anyone. Several people surrounded her; bus stopped there only; people were watching from bus; but no one extended helping hand. She went faint and I felt she died. The worst was that: hospital was just behind, barely 100 mts.
I saw a girl hurriedly de-boarding the bus. I thought she will get aggressive and will tell people to help, but she passed; slowly, quite close, diverting her eyes from the spot. Till then a few people, held her and took her in shade, there only. She became unconscious. Eyes closed. I felt extremely bad.
I don't know, till this moment why I didn't acted. I was watching someone dying in front of me.
I went, held her and asked people to help. Some boys came. We took her to hospital. From her bag, I took out her diary and ID card. She was II Yr student of a Delhi University College. She didn't belonged to Delhi. I called her local guardian, and asked them to come. Then called to police on 100, and her friends. I found her father's mobile number in diary and called him. He was very shocked. I cannot describe him.
A nurse came to us, and said she is conscious now. I went to see her. As I was talking to her father, I gave her cellphone. She was feeling well now. But, the doctor said, her head is bleeding a lot, she need stitches in her head and a CT Scan, which can not be done in this hospital. So, presence of local guardian was necessary. By that time, police came. She gave contact number of her hostel. A lady picked up.. and the conversation with me goes like this:
Me: (i told about her accident and injury)
the lady: OK. (she expressed as if she don't know her)
Me: you know her. she lives in your hostel.
the lady: ya. but we were accommodating only 1st year students. Only this year we have accommodated second year students. She is new to us. We don't know. Ask her, where she was living before. We cant come.
Meanwhile, she told about one of her relatives living nearby. Another boy, who was with us, called them.
Another lady picked up the call. She said her husband has to go to office; already, he is late. Office is quite strict, and all sort of excuses. After a lot of persuasion, her husband agreed to come here. We, police, hospital staffs, and she were waiting.. but no one came yet, as half an hour passed. Two girls; her friends came. This is how life has become: "Friends are there, not relatives."
Well, one hour passed. Again we called the relative of hers, who agreed to come. He told, he is nearby, reaching in few minutes. A hospital staff came to us and asked that we can leave.

There was no person standing there, when she was lying helplessly on the ground. All were animals, including me. God forbid, if she died.. even i took her to hospital later, it would have weighed heavily upon my conscience.
